In Loving Memory: Buckmasters Beautify Pond for All to Enjoy

Featured Image

The pond area has become even more beautiful and meaningful thanks to the generosity of Marlin Buckmaster and his family. In a touching tribute to Marlin’s late wife, Barbara, the Buckmasters have made several thoughtful contributions that enhance the space for all to enjoy.

In 2024, the family donated a new fountain after the original one stopped working, something that had disappointed both Marlin and Barbara, who often sat together on the bench on the east side of the pond, enjoying the peaceful view. After Barbara’s passing, Marlin found himself back on that same bench, reflecting on their time together. It was then that he decided to honor her memory with the gift of a new fountain.

More recently, while sitting on that familiar bench again, Marlin noticed the pier and walkway were showing their age. He talked it over with his son, and together they decided to replace them with another gift in Barbara’s memory.

The Buckmasters partnered with Wayne Concrete, a local business owned by FFC resident Eileen Baumer and now operated by her sons. The Baumer family worked closely with Marlin to design a new pier and walkway that would be both functional and beautiful. The new pier is wider and now includes benches on each side, inviting visitors to sit and enjoy the view just as Marlin and Barbara once did. The walkway features a gentle slope for easier access and matching railings that complement the pier. Even the electrical box has been thoughtfully enclosed, with plans to add a matching box on the opposite side for symmetry.

Marlin shared that he is very pleased with the results and happy to contribute to the community in this way. And the improvements aren’t over yet. Soon, the Buckmaster family will be donating three new willow trees to replace the aging ones currently by the pond.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Marlin and the entire Buckmaster family for their generosity, vision, and love for this special place. Their gifts not only honor Barbara’s memory but also create a serene and welcoming space for everyone to enjoy.

Stay tuned—this cherished area is only getting better!
