Shining a Light on Alzheimer’s: The Longest Day 2026

Written by Karen Seal | Jun 30, 2026 4:14:25 PM

On June 22, 2026, our community came together once again to mark The Longest Day, turning the longest day of the year into a meaningful opportunity to raise awareness for Alzheimer’s disease and honor those whose lives have been touched by it. Residents, families, staff, and friends gathered in a spirit of hope, remembrance, and support.

The evening featured 47 luminaries, each representing a loved one, a cherished memory, or a commitment to the fight against Alzheimer’s. Through the generosity of our community, we raised $490 for the Alzheimer's Association and the mission to end Alzheimer’s disease.

Karen Seal, Director of Communications and Community Outreach, welcomed everyone and thanked attendees for their continued support and participation. She reflected on the importance of coming together as a community to support those affected by Alzheimer's and reminded everyone that every contribution helps move the cause forward.

Chaplain Derek Parker then offered an inspiring prayer, lifting up individuals living with Alzheimer’s, their caregivers, and all those working toward better treatments and, ultimately, a cure. His words provided a moment of reflection and hope for everyone in attendance.

Resident Roger Cornett also shared a heartfelt poem that beautifully captured the emotions surrounding memory, love, and perseverance.

Thank you to everyone who attended, purchased a luminary, volunteered, or contributed to the event's success. Together, we continue to shine a light on Alzheimer’s disease and demonstrate the compassion and strength that make our community so special.

With the funds raised at this event, the Friends Fellowship Community Walk Team has now raised a total of $9,549 toward this year’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s, bringing us one step closer to our goal of $13,000. We are also excited to share that we have already reached our goal of 40 Walk team members, a testament to the dedication and support of our residents, staff, families, and friends.

If you would like to support our efforts in the fight against Alzheimer’s disease, please contact Karen Seal or visit http://act.alz.org/goto/ffc to make a donation or join our cause.

The Walk to End Alzheimer’s will take place on Saturday, September 26, at 9:00 a.m. at Glen Miller Golf Course.
