We are thrilled to share that one of our very own residents, Carol Black, received the Volunteer Lifetime Award at Reid Health’s annual Auxiliary meeting on November 18, 2025.

This prestigious honor recognizes volunteers who have made an extraordinary impact through years of dedication and service.

To be considered for this award, nominees must meet at least two of the following criteria:

  • Over 3,000 hours of volunteer service
  • More than 20 years of volunteer service
  • Be 70 years of age or older

From this pool of exceptional volunteers, three previous award recipients selected Carol. Her contributions speak volumes:

  • 24+ years of volunteer service
  • Over 5,300 hours dedicated to Reid Health
  • Roles in surgery waiting, fundraising, and special projects

Her commitment has touched countless lives, and staff members describe her as warm, caring, and always ready with a smile.

A glimpse of Carol’s life was shared during the award presentation. She and her husband, Clyde, have been married for 64 years. Together, they raised two sons—one living in New Mexico and the other in Cincinnati—and also adopted two children who sadly passed away in adulthood. Their family includes four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Carol’s life has been rich with music and service. A graduate of Hillsdale College, she studied music and played piano and organ for churches wherever they lived, including 25 years at West Richmond Friends. She is a member of First English Lutheran Church and enjoys knitting prayer shawls for those in need.

Carol and Clyde share a fun tradition: once a week, they dine out at a restaurant chosen by chance where Clyde writes names on slips of paper, and Carol picks one blindly. This little game has led them to discover new favorites! Clyde also does all the grocery shopping, proving they make a great team.

In addition to being one of our many residents who volunteer at Reid, Carol has also volunteered for FFC shopping for the gift shop and is a pianist for some of our church services. We are proud to have her as part of our Friends Fellowship family and celebrate this incredible achievement with her. Congratulations, Carol; you inspire us all!
