Bench Dedication to Honor the Memory of Isaiah Michaels & John Koechlein

What began as a gray, rainy morning soon brightened into a day filled with warmth and remembrance.

On May 28th, 2025, our staff, residents, and their families gathered in the sunlit courtyard joining the first and second levels of The Courtyards to honor the memory of two cherished members of our Friends Fellowship family, Isaiah Michaels and John Koechlein. Thanks to the heartfelt generosity of Monica and Caleigh Koechlein, two beautiful benches now grace our courtyard—inviting not only today’s residents and families, but all who visit in the years to come, to pause, reflect, and find comfort.

Monica expressed it beautifully: “Isaiah and the staff at Friends Fellowship became ‘family’ to my John as he lost part of himself to Alzheimer’s. These benches will serve as a place for my daughter and me, the family of Isaiah Michaels, and the staff and residents of The Courtyards to find comfort and moments of peace.”

Melissa Harrison, our Director of Nursing, captured the spirit of the day, saying, “May we reflect on some memories we’ve had, feel the spirit in every gentle breeze, and remember Isaiah and John. They will never be forgotten.”

Kelly Cline, who has been a trusted nurse in The Courtyards for many years, also shared: “The memorial benches placed in the courtyard serve as a place of reflection and peace—a reminder of John and Isaiah’s presence, their laughter, and the moments we shared. This space can be a sanctuary where others can pause, breathe, and feel the quiet comfort of memories of lost loved ones.”

Isaiah’s family visited the new benches and reflected, “How peaceful it was to sit and be present in a spot where Isaiah spent so much time. He loved his job and those he served.”

Our deepest gratitude goes to every resident, family member, and staff member who made this moment possible—and especially to Monica and Caleigh, whose gift to our community helps ensure that hope, comfort, and connection will be here for all who need it.
